Stan & Ollie  (PG)

Laurel & Hardy, one of the world's great comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future.
As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. The tour becomes a hit, but Stan & Ollie can't quite shake the specter of Laurel and Hardy's past; the long-buried ghosts, coupled with Oliver's failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership.

A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other.

"It's a love song played in a minor key, and it leaves an unexpectedly lingering impression" Time Out

"Reilly and Coogan brilliantly capture the physical mannerisms and verbal tics of their characters without resorting to caricature... They sing “Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia” and dance with a comic grace and panache matching that of the real comic legends." Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent.

"Reilly is having a career-high year, with his outstanding dominant performance in Jacques Audiard's Western The Sisters Brothers and now this wonderful turn, in which he all but disappears into the Hardy persona." Hollywood Reporter

"It could have been a standard by-the-numbers origin-story biopic — instead, Stan & Ollie looks at the legendary screen duo of Stan Laurel (Steve Coogan) and Oliver Hardy (John C. Reilly) as their career winds down. The emphasis here is on the way the funny bits in their lives come tinged with melancholy — not a bad thing, really, when you’ve actors like these who can deftly balance both comedy and tragedy. Taking a swerve taking from the cocaine cowboys of Filth, director Jon S. Baird seems to have an instinctive grasp that the best course of action would be to trust his performers. Well played, sir." Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
