THIS SCREENING
Blinded By The Light  (12A)

Musical, comedy drama

Friday 23rd August 2019, 7.30pm
Certificate  Duration 117mins

Director: Gurinder Chadha
Cast includes Viveik Kalra, Kulvinder Ghir, Meera Ganatra, Aaron Phagura, Dean-Charles Chapman, Nikita Mehta.

Javed is a British teen of Pakistani descent growing up in 1987 England. Amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times, he writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the inflexibility of his traditional father. But when a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed sees parallels to his working-class life in the powerful lyrics. As Javed discovers an outlet for his own pent-up dreams, he also begins to express himself in his own voice.

"A no-hope British-Pakistani teen (dynamite newcomer Viveik Kalra) finds salvation in the music of Bruce Springsteen. Cornball? So what. Look for Gurinder Chadha's exuberant gift of a movie to hit you the same way." Peter Travers, Rolling Stone.

"Like the best pop, the film wears its broadness and corniness like a badge of honour, but you’d need a hard heart to resist." Ian Freer, Empire.
