Borderlines Film Festival

Wednesday 1st March 2017, 7pm
Certificate  Duration 122mins
Director: Bruno Dumont
Starring: Fabrice Luchini, Juliette Binoche, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi

Germany/France, 2016, 2 hours 2 minutes

Juliette Binoche gives an outrageous performance in French enfant terrible Bruno Dumont’s (L’HumanitéHadewijch) surreal slapstick comedy, a radical tonal shif t from his bleak previous works. It’s a crime caper set in Belle Époque France; two incompetent policemen investigate the disappearance of tourists in a seaside community including the curious Bruforts and the degenerate Van Peteghems – André (Fabrice Luchini), Isabelle (Valerie Bruni-Tedeschi), and André’s imperious sister (Binoche). It’s an original, diabolically funny satire of the bourgeoisie, abetted by some of France’s most accomplished performers.
