THIS SCREENING
La Traviata: Teatro Dell' 2017  (12A)

Recorded Live

Sunday 9th July 2017, 5pm
Certificate  Duration 3hrs
Captured live from Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

A collaboration between American film-maker Sofia Coppola and Italian haute couture king Valentino comes in the form of a revival of Giuseppe Verdi’s classic opera, LA TRAVIATA.

Coppola brings new life into Verdi’s 1853 opera that tells the story of tempestuous love and heartbreak. Violetta Valéry is a well-known courtesan in Paris whose life appears to be glamorous. However, she’s suffering from a serious illness and living on the money given to her by her male patrons. But she ends up meeting and falling in love with Alfredo Germont, a young man from a good family. But tragic circumstances mean they’re torn apart...

Coppola joined this production of LA TRAVIATA when Valentino personally invited her to direct. It has already become one of the most successful revivals of the story, immediately selling out its 15 performance run in Rome. Now, thanks to Coppola and Valentino, the elegant spectacle is being brought directly to the big screen, captured at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

The ensemble includes Francesca Dotto, Antonio Poli, Roberto Frontali and Anna Malavasi.
With the orchestra of the Rome Opera led by Jader Bergamini.
