We are thrilled to welcome this acclaimed young musician for his third ‘Hay Music’ recital at Dorstone House, Dorstone to play Bach, including transcriptions by Myra Hess and Busoni, Scriabin’s Two Poems and Chopin’s huge, thrilling B minor Sonata. Ticket holders are welcome to visit the garden and arboretum from 1.30pm and maybe enjoy a picnic lunch. After the concert teas will be served in aid of Dorstone Church and Village Hall.

Jayson Gillham was born in 1986 in Dalby, Queensland, started piano lessons at the age of four and had his first public performance at the Dalby Eisteddfod where he played a minuet by J S Bach. In 1993 he commenced formal piano lessons from Eugene Gienger in Toowoomba. At the age of seven, he won the Dalby Eisteddfod's Open Age section. When he was 14, he travelled 500km each week to Brisbane for piano lessons with Leah Horwitz and at 17 was semi-finalist in the Sydney International Piano

Competition. He graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2007 after which he relocated to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music with Christopher Elton.

In 2012 Jayson was Commonwealth Musician of the Year and Gold Medallist of the Royal Over-Seas League. Other competition successes include The Leeds International Piano Competition, The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and The International Chopin Piano Competition.

In 2014 he won The Montreal International Piano Competition since when he has toured the world widely.

He has played concertos with many international orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Wuhan Philharmonic.

Jayson has given recitals at some of the world's most prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall and the Auditorium of the Louvre.

His recording of Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto with conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy and his most recent CD of Medtner and Rachmaninoff piano concertos received enthusiastic reviews, as have his CD’s of solo piano works.
