2023 marked the centenary of the birth of the Hungarian Composer György Ligeti whose music is heavily featured in Stanley Kubrick’s movie.
Hay Music is celebrating this with a concert by the world-famous Ligeti String Quartet on the evening of Friday 19th January and the showing of a 1976 BBC documentary on him discussed by two people who knew Ligeti well.
The music (which was used without Ligeti’s permission) provides a perfect atmospheric background to the gradual takeover of the spaceship by the computer Hal and it is hard to imagine the film without it.
